Introduction

Is technology your passion? Are you interested in using this within an international and dynamic company? Do you want to contribute to KLM’s ambition to remain at the forefront of innovation and sustainability in the aviation sector?
If so, the Business & Tech management traineeship at KLM is a perfect fit for you.

What can you expect?
An unforgettable work experience within the IT division of Air France-KLM. For example, as a team leader of specialists, project leader of a large digital transformation program, or the person responsible for mapping the IT carbon footprint!

The world we work in is challenging due to the speed of technological developments. Air France-KLM aims to remain the digital innovator in aviation and offers plenty of opportunities for emerging talent which you can be a part of. We guarantee a flying start in developing your leadership skills. Are you a future leader shaping the digital transformation of Air France-KLM?

What are you going to do?

The two-year program consists of completing four different assignments including a lot of responsibility. You will gain extensive experience in managing technology, a team and complete a tech-related assignment. You are hereby focusing on the latest technology trends to support business operations and improve our services.
In addition to the assignments, every Friday there is a challenging training program, where we offer you the chance to excel and grow to your full potential.

What kind of assignments can you expect as a Business & Tech management trainee? Here are some examples of what you may encounter at Air France-KLM:

Product Manager of an agile team in Cargo
As a product manager, you are responsible for a team that develops new functionalities in Cargo. This is to enhance collaboration with their customers (forwarders) in the sale of Cargo products. This team works according to agile principles and consists of both French and Dutch employees from IT and the Cargo business. Apart from setting up a team, you will be responsible for realizing the first minimum viable product (MVP). In this assignment, you will be challenged on your technical insights and social skills.

Leading a combined (AF-KL) team
You are responsible for delivering IT products to employees or businesses of Air France and KLM. This together with your team members in Amsterdam, Valbonne, Toulouse, and Paris. Including, the AF-KL Collaboration team, who are responsible for delivering Office 365 solutions such as Microsoft Teams and Office.
Also, new initiatives like Power Platform, a set of tools for rapid and easy application development. In this role, you will learn how to efficiently align IT products with both KLM and Air France and how to manage teams at different locations with all the associated cultural aspects.

Managing the transition of Air France-KLM to the cloud
This time requires faster time-to-market and the flexibility to better respond to the needs of our passengers. To achieve this, we say goodbye to our physical data center and migrating our applications to the cloud. This brings significant changes to our way of working (DevOps). As well as investments in the knowledge and training of our colleagues. It will be your task to guide this process with your team, or as part of the transformation program.

Applying Artificial Intelligence
Data is the new oil and plays a growing role in making better decisions. You will be challenged to explore which new AI tools we can use to further optimize our schedule. This involves using data sources both within and outside of Air France-KLM.
Other assignments could include:

  • Setting up a new team as a product owner to develop APIs;
  • Further development of our successful social media HUB;
  • Ensuring a successful rollout of our self-check-in equipment at the kiosks at Schiphol Airport;
  • Leading the implementation of a private ChatGPT environment within Air France-KLM;
  • Developing a seamless integration of Air France-KLM with Skyteam partners for check-in functionality;
  • Assisting in further elaboration of the technology chapter in the KLM strategy.
